She is now deeply in debt to a company that helped her to use the winnings as collateral. Upon borrowing $190k, of which she agreed to pay back with her cheques from her lotto winnings, the rules changed which allowed her to collect the remaining amount at once. She failed to make payments on the loan however. The debt, she blamed on the illness of her uninsured son, who needed a large sum of $1,000,000 alone for his medical bills. A lawyer represented the firm that sued Mullins was forced to confirm her plight. She now has no assets.
